Denise Yaghmourian is a talented multimedia artist who creates dazzling mixed media works, riveting art installations, and unforgettable performance art pieces. Her artwork utilizes bold colors and textures that incorporate fiber and found objects.

Yaghmourian says she prefers to work in series; many of which she has been developing for years, like her Fiber Cube series or her Fragile Life series. Indeed, patterns are an integral part of Yaghmourian’s work and creative process. “I seek to merge naturally occurring and found pattern with my own pattern creation, thereby establishing a collaboration with the selected medium,” she says.

According to Yaghmourian’s website, patterns in nature, patterns in math and science, patterns of the brain, and patterns in life and relationships are the inspiring and driving forces in her work. “It is through the recognition and knowing of these universal patterns that I feel closer to the knowing of myself, the universe, and the true nature of things,” she says.

Yaghmourian also creates collaborative performance art pieces that are witty, unique, and truly captivating, which she performs at galleries and special events. One of her recent performances was with Joe Willie Smith at The Clarendon Hotel in an improvisational performance called Typing Pool.

Traditionally trained in the arts, Yaghmourian received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Arizona State University. She was also the recipient of a Contemporary Forum Artist Grant and has participated in public art projects with Scottsdale Public Arts’ InFlux program. She has shown extensively both in solo and group exhibitions throughout the country, and her artwork can be found in many public and private collections throughout the world.

You can often find Yaghmourian busy on her latest projects in her amazing studio located downtown on Grand Avenue. Want to learn more about Denise Yaghmourian and her artwork? Visit deniseyaghmourian.com.
